Portfolio of United Rentals offerings drives increased performance by connecting people and equipment through data.
Identifying ways to work more efficiently and effectively helps companies stay ahead of the curve, especially in the face of skilled workforce shortages. Recognizing that today’s most productive, profitable worksites are digitally connected, United Rentals has committed itself to helping customers leverage digital tools, and reap real-world results, through a portfolio of offerings called Worksite Performance Solutions™.
These offerings include innovative solutions across the connected worksite landscape. Taken together, they connect nearly every part of a worksite, from the perimeter gate to the back office. The data generated allows companies to make more strategic decisions and streamline and automate processes.
Worksite Performance Solutions can help customers more easily ensure that:
- The right people enter the site
- The right type and amount of equipment is on site
- The right people are using the equipment and using it properly
- The equipment is fueled or charged and ready to go
- The equipment is maintained efficiently and effectively
At the heart of each offering lies Total Control®, United Rentals’ cloud-based worksite management platform.
Worksite Performance drives increased performance in three main areas: productivity, safety and sustainability.
Enhancing safety
Busy, high-traffic worksites can be dangerous places. Worksite Performance Solutions enables companies to increase safety and security in a number of ways, starting from the moment workers reach the perimeter gate.
Modular smart turnstiles, which integrate with perimeter fences, automate the process of tracking and authenticating entrants. To pass through, workers tap an ID badge equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID). Workers are authenticated by profiles stored in Total Control. Automating site access control allows security guards to focus on other tasks, such as searching bags or monitoring security cameras.
Equipment access management is equally important, yet too often overlooked. Keypad ignition locks are available on thousands of United Rentals machines to reduce unauthorized use and increase accountability. Managers can assign PINs to groups or individuals. Better still, they can skip the PINs and adopt badge-based access. With the help of Total Control, authorized operators can swipe the same RFID-enabled ID badge they use to enter the site to unlock equipment.
Wearables available from United Rentals also play a valuable role. They pinpoint worker locations in real time, which can facilitate a faster response to emergencies. Clip-on devices can detect falls, sound an evacuation alarm and enable a worker to signal for help.
Maximizing productivity
Worksite Performance Solutions offerings combine to provide a complete view of how well a site is performing and reveal opportunities to maximize uptime and derive more value from equipment.
For example, with the United Rentals Mobile App, customers can monitor the real-time location of each piece of rented and owned equipment so no equipment is “lost.” Through Total Control, they can track utilization to help them right-size and right-type fleets. Low-utilization alerts flag equipment that may no longer be needed.
When it comes to tracking tools and optimizing tool utilization, United Rentals offers Bluetooth tags, as well as cutting-edge customized solutions. The ProBox OnDemand™ puts tools exactly where they’re needed while automating tool tracking. Managers know who removes a tool, and they receive an alert when tools don’t make it back to the box at the end of the day. For automatic inventory management and distribution, there’s the access-controlled Supplies OnDemand, which provides 24/7 access to everything from parts to PPE and features an electronic inventory management system.
A digitally connected worksite holds the power to streamline equipment maintenance, too. Odometer readings and engine hours collected in Total Control facilitate just-in-time preventive maintenance. This approach to maintenance keeps equipment in top operating condition while reducing under-maintenance and over-maintenance. Customizable alerts such as low-fuel and low-DEF further reduce equipment downtime.
Increasing sustainability
Many large companies are striving to meet sustainability goals without compromising productivity or profitability. Worksite Performance Solutions can help.
Total Control features an Estimated Emissions dashboard, which leverages telematics data to automatically calculate the estimated metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent produced by equipment on the worksite. Viewing this data by worksite, time period or equipment category class allows companies to understand the biggest opportunities to reduce emissions, such as by choosing cleaner-burning equipment when possible. Electric equipment, hybrid equipment, propane-powered equipment and battery energy storage systems available from United Rentals help companies reduce their carbon footprint.
To curb fuel consumption and thereby emissions, United Rentals offers remote environmental monitoring through WEDGE™ smart climate control. Wireless sensors enable managers to monitor ambient temperatures from a computer, tablet or smartphone. WEDGE SmartHeat hardware added to heaters lets them adjust the thermostats remotely.
By embracing new, digital ways of working, companies can stay nimble, prepare to respond to novel challenges and achieve unprecedented performance. With Worksite Performance Solutions, United Rentals joins and supports customers on the front lines of these efforts.
