Problema

A West Coast semiconductor manufacturer needed a mechanical flush system for its chill water pipes to remove slag and debris before the new plant could open. El desafío: Due to the location of the tie-in point, the system had to be installed on the roof. Further complicating the project, the client’s engineers changed the roof load specifications after the initial system was built.

Solución

Leveraging in-house engineering and a significant amount of custom fabrication, the United Rentals team was able to design and build a system that fit in the building elevators and within the roof footprint provided. When the specifications changed, the team reacted quickly. They built custom manifolds and brought in hoses and other parts to spread the weight of the system across more of the roof.

System telemetry provided the ability to review parameters such as flow rate and system pressure. Variable frequency drives controlled the speed of the pumps. A differential pressure alarm sounded alerts when the pressure dropped, indicating that the in-line bag filters were filling up. These alerts enabled the client to proactively change out the filters and keep the system running at optimal speed.

United Rentals’ years of experience working with the client, its deep knowledge of mechanical flush systems, its fabrication capabilities and its out-of-the-box thinking allowed United Rentals to provide a system that met the unique requirements of the project. The system successfully operated continuously during the end of construction to help the semiconductor manufacturer open its new plant on schedule.
